Fantastic Journey in Search of a Stray Identity
Transformation
Double reports the day of Samsar, who wakes from his dream,
finding his body 'changed'. Nobody knows where the secret
or the past hides, including his original sex and background.
Besides some fragmented memories in faded colours, the only
clue is a photo with a stranger's Chinese name, who probably
possesses the key. An uncanny journey, the quest for a lost
body, starts in a purple morning in place the mirror cannot
recognise.
This play is inspired by the award-winning novel Double Body of Dung Kai Cheung, and in association with Kafka's magical Metamorphosis, Transformation Double depicts a theatrical vision intertwined with 'mutations' and 'desires'. It is also a journey for cultural identity.
Transformation Double is created by the local multi-media art collective, 20 Beans + A Box, the performance makes use of video installation, original music and cross-disciplinary media to penetrate into the illusions of a literary world and the cocooned imaginations.
